Smartphone Obsession
I’m getting a new phone soon. I’m both excited and nervous. I’m nervous because I don’t want to become one of those people constantly on their phones. I don’t want to be more concerned with Facebook then with the world around me. I don’t think I’ll ever become one of those people, but the fear is still there.
I’m already a socially awkward person and I don’t want my new phone to inhibit my abilities to interact with people.
Merlo, a clinical psychologist, said she’s observed a number of behaviors among smartphone users that she labels “problematic.” Among them, Merlo says some patients pretend to talk on the phone or fiddle with apps to avoid eye contact or other interactions at a bar or a party. Others are so genuinely engrossed in their phones that they ignore the people around them completely.
God, the next generation is going to be so fucked up.
If you’re reading this on your phone, put it down and enjoy the people you’re with instead.
